Steampunk Alice 2

I need to share the rest of the pages from my circle journal. These stunning pages are by Shirley. IRL they are so touchy-feely with the raised cogs. "I am not strange odd weird or crazy. My reality is just different to yours" I love the quote
The Octopode Factory stamps again but this page is very different to the other one. These are Juliwan's pages and I love them - just beautiful.

Last but not least Mrs McF's pages using the Graphic 45 Halloween in wonderland pages. I loved these papers and this is a wonderful end to the book.
"What is the use of a book without pictures or conversation?"

So I'm totally thrilled to have this wonderful artwork, with such fabulous contributions. Thanks you so much to all these wonderful people.

Steampunk Alice

Back in January I blogged about my circle journal I was sending off on its way. Recently it returned home brimming with fabulous artwork. What a change from the slim couple of pages I posted. Everyone completing a page has added their contribution to the book. All I had to do was to add pockets for the sign in tags and the covers.

So here it is

Cynthia Spooner's fabulous contribution. I love Alice's wings!
Vicky Abrathat - "If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense"
I love this quote and the stitching on the papers
Alipeep's wonderful pages using the Octopode Alice stamps
Look at this amazing doodling by Allycat. I'm going to study this carefully as I want to do more doodling
My favourite pink! I love the 2 Alice's in these pages by Gill (Wisher)

Saturday 4 August 2012

OK this really is the very last update for now. I'll have to get my journal out and create some more pages. I was away on retreat with limited art resources so this is basically just pencil and green and gold paint.
I went to Art from the Heart recently to do a mini-canvas class with Kate Crane.
The backgrounds were painted using Golden liquid acrylic paints and then we used Stampotique stamps

Time for a change of style

Back to art journaling. This page was inspire by the picture on one of my baby grandaughter's tops. She loved the picture on her top so much she said "ah" and kissed it.

I've been through a phase of doodling recently. I find it very relaxing. Here are some of the results
I went away with friends for  a scrapbooking week at the end of June. I did a little bit of scrapbooking and some art journaling but I think my favourite was the canvases. With inspiration from Christie Tomlinson (the backgrounds) and Julie Nutting (the collage couture ladies) here are my canvases.

We've already booked to go away next year.

Another circle journal

The second theme was Words - what they mean to us

I used a poem together with some doodling

Circle journal pages

It's so long since I put anything on the blog - not that I haven't been painting and doodling - it just hasn't got as far as the blog

The first one had a theme "Turn the Page". The instructions were to take the book we were reading, oprn it randomly and find a phrase or sentence to create a book about. I was reading the night circus by Erin Morgenstern. My phrase was "Le cirque des Reves", "The circus of dreams

Art Geeks #25

This week's challenge was to make a page of things we don't, won't or can't usually do.
So....
Looking though my journal I realise that
I never do dark pages
If I draw faces I would never, ever journal on the face
I prefer to journal on the computer and preferably use a quote or a poem rather than write something myself

Art Geeks Challenge #24 Duality

The theme for this challenge was duality - different aspects of ourselves. I chose to see this theme as "Integration through Mindfulness and Awareness". I wish I could say that I'd drawn the girls myself, but I've used the beautiful girls I found recently on the Twinings Limited edition teas. they definitely needed using in a project. I wish my different selves were all so beautiful!

29 Faces in May #6

I'm not going to post all the faces but here is number 6

29 faces in May Face #3

Here's my third face. I've a way to go to catch up so will have to fit some extra in at some stage

Sunday 6 May 2012

29 faces0

I've just signed up for a new challenge - late as usual so I'll have to get my skates on now. The challenge is to draw 29 faces in May.

Any sort of medium is allowed

100 girls on cheap paper

After doing a recent workshop with Dina Wakley I bought a book she recommended,

100 Girls on Cheap Paper: Drawings by Tina Berning

This is what I've done in my journal since then.
The girls are drawn with a Stabilo Aquarellable black pencil and then

Expand your boundaries

This was another Art Geeks Challenge

Gill, this prompt is designed to push you outside of the boundaries of what you 'see' and get you to try recreating a photo or a scene. Partly realistic and partly imagination.

Your prompt is to get a photo and cut off part of your subject. Then recreate that along with finishing out the background of the original photo. Creating a new boundary from the one in the photo.

So here are the original photo and the finished page in my journal

Art Geeks

I recently joined Art Geeks at Gulfsprite.com. Every other week I get an art journaling prompt idea {including instructions and video} to help get me motivated to create art journal pages.

Here is my submission for the Art Geeks 20 challenge. It was a scavenger hunt, where we had to include all of these things into an art journal page:
1.Your mother's {or father's} favorite color.
2.A feather {real or drawn, may use image provided}
3.A womans face {all or partial; drawn, photo, collage}
4.A lyric from your favorite song
5.A key {see link below to download key image, you must use this image}
6.A bird {drawing, photo, collage}
I've included the lavender for my Mum and the song is Procul Harum's "A whiter shade of pale"
The bird came from a class by Dina Wakley last year but I've painted over it for a more muted look to fit with this page

Poetry in Motion with Dina Wakley at Art from the Heart

I'm having a wonderful weekend with gesso, paint, stencils, pan pastels etc. Nothing to show yet, but tomorrow. For now I'll just share the amazing page Dina has done in my journal.

Bookbinding

Just finished making a book - painted cover, coptic binding and a leather spine cover. It's something I've wanted to try for a while but didn't know quite where to start, but I found this course by Rhomany on willowing.

Doodling

I bought a doodling book last week - Doodlings Unleashed by Traci Bautista. I fell in love with her doodled girls so here are my first doodles. They aren't finished pages yet but I wanted to share them. I love the idea so much - I'm sure this is something I'll go on and on doing

Circle journal

Well here's my entry in the first circle journal - the theme was self-portrait and the instructions said to include my own handwriting and whatever I wanted to share about myself

Mixed Media and Mandala Art Course

I'm doing Guadalupe Brizuela Cabal's Mixed Media and Mandala course and really enjoying it. These are very different mandalas to the previous course

Sunday 8 January 2012

Mandala

Well, today I found time for the next part of Guada's Mixed Media and Mandala course. Signing up to on-line courses is fun, but you have to find the time to play.

the background was initiaqlly brayered and then finger painted - messy but fun. The mandal was drawn in white crayon and then painted in neocolor IIs and watercolour pencils. Then some doodling

Lifebook 2012

I'm doing the Lifebook course on Willowing.ning. Here's my first page, to be carefully put away ready for the end of the year when I bind the book, hopefully with lots more pages.

Steampunk Alice

I finally found a theme for my circle journal - just as well as it has to be posted on Tuesday. The theme is Stempunk Alice and here is a little taster
